TRAVEL: exploring Zadar & Nin
It’s been a little quiet around here, because I decided to actually (like really!) take a few days off for our short get-away to Croatia. Most days I didn’t even as much as touch my laptop and it felt amazing. Fueled up with energy and with tons of pictures for you guys, I am back in Vienna today, ready to tell you guys all about our past 5 days. On Thursday, we left Vienna at 1am and headed south towards Zadar. It was Mike’s crazy idea to drive all night in order to be in the sun by breakfast. While I felt like I was in a coma for most of the drive, he got us to the Falkensteiner Resort & Spa Iadera (detailed hotel review will follow) safe and sound by 7am.
After a delicious breakfast and a quick nap by the pool, we headed to the town of Zadar for some fresh fish for lunch (at Restaurant Foša, which was delicious but pricey) and a little exploring. Tiny alleys, stray cats and historic building made up the city. While Zadar really is beautiful, the main square around the Forum felt a bit too touristy. Which is why we decided to explore Nin and Otok (=island) Vir the next day. Along the lagoon in Nin, we actually found a sandy beach (“Queen’s Beach”), which is fairly rare in Croatia. For dinner, we headed to Otok Murter, which definitely stole my heart. So much, that we decided to return on Sunday and I have a whole separate post planned for you guys. For now, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite snapshots from Zadar and Nin:
I was in Zadar a few days ago, and I found it so beautiful, with the beaches, the post, the old city… is really precious ! I hope to come back soon!

[…] To finish of my travel diary from Croatia, I wanted to share a detailed hotel review of our stay at the beautiful Falkensteiner Resort & Spa Iadera with you guys. Personally, I really love all of the Falkensteiner hotels that I’ve been to so far (Velden, Schladming & Stegersbach), so it was no surprise that we instantly felt very at home in Zadar as well. We had a spacious junior suite with an incredible ocean view and breakfast was also included. The resort is located about 5.5 hrs by car from Vienna and only a few kilometers away from the Croatian town of Zadar. […]
