BEAUTY TALK: winter rescue

During winter I always have the toughest time with my skin. As someone who suffers from eczema, I have dry skin year-round, but when you add the icy temperatures, strong winds and heated air during winter it just gets worse … This year, however, I ways lucky to receive the “Dr. Weil Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief” series as a gift from the lovely people at Origins in November. I have now been using the face wash, serum and moisturizer twice daily for about a month now (as you can tell since all the bottles are almost empty already) and can really see how my skin is improving. For me personally, the biggest difference that I have noticed is that my skin is a lot less itchy and the redness around the nose and eyes has also gone back a lot. In combination with the Dr. Weil products I use the “drink up” overnight mask, which is amazing! For someone with seriously dry skin, I feel like I have things somewhat under control this winter – which is a nice change. And for the next few days I will let the mexican air and caribbean sea do it’s magic for soft skin.

The price for these products is definitely not cheap, but if you’re like me and are having to deal with difficult skin, you’re probably happy with anything that will help. The set that I have been using lately is currently available for 90€, which is a great deal, considering that usually 50ml of the face cream alone are 75€. Personally, I am the fondest of the cleanser and face cream. The soothing treatment lotion and serum are also great – especially after washing my face these two really calm the skin – but the cleanser and cream are for the moisture, which is what I really need. Unlike other facial washes, the Dr. Weil cleanser doesn’t leave my skin feeling flaky and dry after I wash it, instead the skin is smooth and moisturized, just from the cleanser (that’s why this will also be the first thing I re-buy after our vacation). Especially for traveling I make sure to always have the cream in my bag. It is perfection for the dry skin around my nose and eye area – it is rich without being too heavy for my skin.

Do you guys have any secrets on how to keep your skin hydrated during winter? Do any of you use Origins products? If so, which ones?

PS. I would recommend testing these products at an Origins counter first since the smell is pretty “strong”. I don’t mind, since I’d much rather have good skin and am not too picky with scents, but I could imagine it being a little too much for some people.

my skin also gets very red and itchy during the winter months. last year i used avène products which are quite good. I’ m currently using ibuki from shiseido and I really like it. I am fond of the origin masks so I definitely should get one of these again.

The Re-balance line from Eucerin is really great for sensitive and dry skin as well, which is what I switched too after years of struggling with different cleansers and creams that never worked 🙂 xx

I seem to have very similar skin. I use Aqualia Thermal from Vichy twice a day, which improved my skin a lot. Anyhow I’m always exilcited to try something new. Thanks for your recommendation..

I am using pure organic argan oil from morocco. It is light and rich at the same time.

I have very dry skin, too (I also suffer from atopic eczema, but good for my only when it is very cold and mostly on my hands, my skin is ‘only’ very dry in the winter).
I also use prodcts from Vichy meanwhile for a long time.
My skin is very sensitive (apart from my eczema) and I am happy about every tip from people who seem to have a similiar skin that I have with the same problems!

La Roche Posay does magic for my super dry eczema skin. It is also recom. by most of the dermatologists, and I’ve been to plenty here in Vienna.

I have terribly dry skin during the winter (and Canadian cold doesn’t help it either!). Olive oil has been the one thing that has helped save my skin this winter!!!

I love Origins too and at the moment I´m replaceing all my facial cosmetic staff with Origins.
I had a sample of the Dr. Weil Serum as well and I can tell you the smell is very very strange, but after a while you don´t smell it anymore. I have mixed skin and I use the line “A perfect world” and I can recommend you the serum if you have normal to mixed skin.
